Furnishing your home with antiques

For those of you who follow my Instagram account https://www.instagram.com/teachmacuistin/ , you will know we love mixing up our furnishings to include everything from 200+ year old pieces to Ikea's finest! Antiques have featured in my life from a young age, with my parents using antique auctions and 'junk shops' since the late 80s/early 90s for everything from wardrobes for the bedrooms through to jewellery and general decor items. I embraced it early on and enjoyed the process of seeing how renovations and restorations can also bring something ramshackle back to usable and decorative.  There are many other reasons we find ourselves drawn to antiques:  It's an interest, it's always amazing to me to be up close and personal to items that were dreamt, designed, and made centuries ago.  There's also the good value to be had using these outlets for furnishing and decor. What to consider...

 This is going to be a long one! I'm sure as time goes on, I'll reorganise it, but for now, I'm keeping it simple! What heating system are you going with (or are you going passive, so none needed)? Yeah, so everyone thinks about this, but no one thinks about the location of the various elements of the system chosen. If you go with Under Floor Heating, where are the manifolds going? You need to have a central place to locate the pipe manifolds (think of a row of pipes sticking out of the ground with knobs on top) .. you'll need to be able to access it easily, but who wants to have this in the way or visible? So account for it, have a spot picked for the manifolds where they can be 'hidden'. Where will the ironing board/mops/hoover go? Particularly where will the wall mounted cordless vacuum go? They protrude from the wall, so make sure there's a nook for it with a socket nearby. Task lighting and ambient lighting You may or may not want both everywhere, but g...

Whoops!

 I'll stick with the titles beginning with W ...  Not quite 12 months, but how did I forget this evening existed? Goes to show how busy a house finish and move is! Since April 2021, we've finished the build, we've moved in, we're still unpacking boxes... We've the garden underway, and we've got lots done internally, with loads more to do.  There is some very exciting things in our future with the house; more about that when the time comes.  RE what people don't tell you. I'm going to start listing the items as I think of them, and hopefully they'll help others!
